Seven more children have died of measles in the country in the past 24 hours. In the same period, 66 confirmed measles cases were identified and 1,221 people were found with suspected measles symptoms, taking the total to 1,287 measles patients. Since 15 March, 91 people have died of confirmed measles and 529 of suspected measles, so the official total measles death toll has now risen to 620. The information was given in a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) control room on Sunday.

The DGHS said that, from 15 March to 8am on 7 June, 79,012 patients with suspected measles symptoms had been found and 9,686 confirmed measles patients identified so far; 64,263 people were admitted to hospital with suspected measles symptoms in that period, and 60,064 have so far recovered and been discharged.

According to the directorate, of the seven children who died in the past 24 hours, four were from Dhaka Division and one each from Chattogram, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions. Dhaka Division had the most suspected measles cases in the same period, at 507, of which 51 were confirmed. By division, the death figures show the most deaths so far — 275 — in Dhaka Division (55 children from confirmed measles and 220 from “suspected measles”), followed by Rajshahi with 87 (including two confirmed), Sylhet with 66 (three confirmed), Barishal with 56 (19 confirmed), Chattogram with 56 (10 confirmed), Mymensingh with 50 (two confirmed), Khulna with 23 (from symptoms) and Rangpur with 7 (from symptoms).
