BDESK NEWS:
Local youth in Sonargaon of Narayanganj are conducting day-long awareness campaigns against drugs and crime. The initiative, organized by the Sholpaza Human Welfare and Development Organization, began on Tuesday night and has been ongoing.
The aim is to protect the youth from drug addiction and create public awareness. Engineer Babul Mollah, a representative of the organization, said that outsiders often gather in deserted areas of their locality in the evening, engaging in drug dealing with local youth and workers. Many resort to theft, robbery, and other criminal activities to fund their drug habits, leading to increased social unrest and insecurity in the area.
To combat this situation, the local youth have taken up anti-drug and anti-crime awareness campaigns under the banner of the Sholpaza Human Welfare and Development Organization. They are using public addresses and propaganda at various locations to raise awareness among the general public.
Mollah further emphasized the need for regular police patrols and stricter surveillance in the area. Citizen Maniruzzaman Mani, president of the Sonargaon Upazila branch of Good Governance, said such youth initiatives will play a crucial role in bringing about positive changes in society and helping to build a drug-free community.
Sonargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Sarower said he was unaware of the specific issue but assured that an investigation would be launched.
