Police have arrested a union parishad chairman, Md. Khairuzzaman Babu Molla, 48, in a sabotage case in the Saltha upazila of Faridpur.
He was arrested at around 3 p.m. on Monday during a raid in Natkhola village of Sonapur union in the upazila, police said.
Khairuzzaman Babu, a resident of Chandakhola village in Sonapur union, is the son of the late Md. Abdul Quddus Molla, a former union parishad chairman, police said.
He is the current chairman of Sonapur Union Parishad and the president of the upazila unit of the Jubo League.
Khairuzzaman Babu Molla had been on the run since the fall of the now-banned Awami League government, according to police. In recent months he had begun returning to the area in secret from time to time, they said.
Md. Bablur Rahman Khan, the officer-in-charge of Saltha police station, said: “There are several cases under the sabotage and explosives laws against the union parishad chairman, Babu Molla. He had been on the run for a long time. Acting on a tip-off, police raided Natkhola village on Monday afternoon and arrested him.
