Unity is the only way to secure journalists’ rights, Dinajpur forum told

Dinajpur: The Journalists’ Union of Dinajpur held a discussion meeting to mark the Black Day of the press.

The meeting was held on Tuesday (June 16) at 11 a.m. at the union’s office on Station Road. Professor Sadakat Ali Khan, president of the Journalists’ Union of Dinajpur and the district correspondent for Naya Diganta, chaired the session.

Speakers at the meeting included the union’s general secretary, Mahfizul Islam Ripon, Parbatipur upazila correspondent for Amar Desh; joint general secretary Mahbubul Haque Khan, Dinajpur district correspondent for Amar Desh; finance secretary M.A. Salam, district correspondent for the Daily Times of Bangladesh; Md. Abu Taher, president of the district committee of the international human rights body Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK); general secretary Manjurul Alam; and union members Md. Raju and Tahmina Begum Bilkis.

The meeting was conducted by the union’s vice-president, Md. Faruk Hossain, NTV staff reporter for Dinajpur.

Speakers said everyone must stay vigilant to ensure no ruler can establish fascism in the country again. They said there was no alternative to unity in securing journalists’ rights, and that everyone must set aside their differences and work together.

Also present were union members Md. Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Md. Nur Islam, Lutfur Rahman Laisur, district correspondent for the daily Dinkal, Md. Jahid Hossain, Md. Ismail Hossain Sagar and others.
