The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has raised the price of furnace oil, used in power plants and heavy industry, by almost Tk 12 at a stroke. The price has gone up by Tk 11.92 to Tk 108.78 a litre, an increase of 12.31 percent.
BERC announced the increase in a press release on Wednesday afternoon. The new price takes effect from midnight on Wednesday. Furnace oil previously cost Tk 96.86 a litre.
After the interim government took office, it gave BERC the authority to set the prices of furnace oil and Jet A-1 by a gazette notification on September 15. BERC set the price of furnace oil for the first time on February 22 after a public hearing in January, and has since continued to set prices each month in line with the international market.
