Bangladesh and Malaysia have held productive talks on the labour market. High-level meetings between the two countries were held over two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday, at Malaysia’s human resources ministry in the administrative capital, Putrajaya.
Bangladesh’s minister for labour and employment and for expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, and the prime minister’s adviser, Mahdi Amin, met Malaysia’s human resources minister, Datuk Seri M Ramanan.
The meetings covered the labour markets of Bangladesh and Malaysia, manpower export, the expansion of employment, workers’ facilities and various important matters relating to labour migration.
Bangladesh’s minister and adviser, senior officials of Malaysia’s human resources ministry, representatives of the departments concerned and stakeholders connected with the labour market were present. The discussion covered strengthening bilateral cooperation further, expanding the existing opportunities in the labour market and taking the relationship to a new level on various matters of mutual interest.
Bangladesh’s minister for labour and employment and for expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment, Ariful Haque Chowdhury, and the prime minister’s adviser and spokesperson for the prime minister’s office, Mahdi Amin, are currently in Malaysia on a three-day state visit.
On the first day of the visit, an important telephone conversation took place between Bangladesh’s prime minister, Tarique Rahman, and Malaysia’s prime minister, Anwar Ibrahim. The call gave prominence to energy, investment, port development and various areas of economic cooperation with the aim of further strengthening Bangladesh-Malaysia bilateral relations. The discussion also covered cooperation in supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bangladesh through Malaysia’s state energy company Petronas, progress in the investment activities of Exita Group Berhad, the prospects for a strategic partnership, and possible cooperation with MMC Corporation Berhad in the port and infrastructure sector.
Those concerned expressed the hope that this high-level visit and the series of meetings would further expand the fields of labour market, investment, energy and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Malaysia, and take the friendly relations between the two countries to a new dimension.
