Mid-day meals will be arranged for children across the country within this year, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has assured. He said this on Thursday (4 June) morning at the opening ceremony of a primary-school Gold Cup football tournament held at National Bangla School in Mirpur, in the capital.

Noting that student dropout rates had risen under the previous government and that the present government is prioritising children’s education above all, the minister said school uniforms for children will be arranged within the next two months and mid-day meals for all primary students will be arranged within this year. He said sports will be added to the curriculum to make education enjoyable, and that the government will take every step so that students can learn with a smile.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj expressed the hope that today’s children will one day win various international competitions and bring glory to Bangladesh’s name. The prime minister’s education adviser, Mahdi Amin, said the government wants to build an education system in which students can prepare themselves in subjects of their own choosing.
