The annual holiday list for educational institutions has been revised. Under the revised decision, there will be a holiday on September 23 for the holy Fateha-e-Yazdaham.

The secondary and higher education division of the education ministry issued a notification on the matter on Sunday (September 20).

It said that following the Islamic Foundation’s decision of September 12, and by partially amending notification part-163 of the holiday list issued by the secondary and higher education division on May 20, the date of the holy Fateha-e-Yazdaham in the holiday list for the 2026 academic year has been corrected to September 23.

The question of the date had been raised earlier. The education ministry’s annual holiday list had September 24, while the holy Fateha-e-Yazdaham, which depends on the sighting of the moon, fell on September 23 — so which day was the holiday? The notification has now answered that question.

There will be a one-day holiday at all educational institutions in the country on September 23 for the holy Fateha-e-Yazdaham. The following day, Thursday September 24, teachers, students and staff will carry out their regular work at educational institutions. September 25 and 26, Friday and Saturday, are the weekly holiday. Anyone who takes optional leave on Thursday September 24 will therefore have the chance of four days off in a row.

All government and private colleges, secondary schools, primary schools, madrasas and technical institutions fall under the holiday.
