The government is standardizing students’ certificates to create wide job prospects for Bangladeshis at home and abroad. Technical and vocational institutions and training centers are being updated with courses and curricula tailored to international demand.

Mahdi Amin, the prime minister’s adviser on education, primary and mass education, said this on Monday afternoon, May 25, at a press conference marking the government’s first 100 days. The event was held at the prime minister’s office.

Mahdi Amin said the government is focusing on higher education institutions alongside the formal and informal economy, and is ensuring skills development with the main goal of creating jobs and entrepreneurs. In line with election promises, talks with key stakeholders are under way to launch employment exchanges in every district in phases, with rollout planned soon.

The adviser said the goal of the employment exchanges is to connect individuals at the grassroots level with public and private institutions, provide career services, counseling and capacity-building, and align job supply with market demand. Embassies have been instructed to conduct demand mapping for overseas manpower export. The aim is to identify which countries need which kinds of skilled workers and to design courses and curricula at the country’s technical and vocational institutions and training centers accordingly. Certificates are also being standardized to expand work opportunities for Bangladeshis at home and abroad, he said.
