Removing the confusion among the public over revenue is the government’s main challenge, Prime Minister Tareque Rahman has said.

He made the remarks Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. as chief guest at the opening ceremony of “Revenue Conference 2026,” held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital.

The prime minister said: “The government is trying to reduce spending on unnecessary sectors. But spending on necessary sectors will certainly continue. If everyone properly does the work assigned to them, positive change will come to the country.”

He said: “The government’s goal is to move forward, not to go back to the past. That is why we want to move forward together with everyone. If we are to move forward, we all have to work together, we have to go together.”

The two-day conference was jointly organized by the Finance Division’s Internal Resources Division and the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Senior NBR officials and other relevant officials are taking part in the conference.

The two-day conference is expected to feature detailed discussions on increasing revenue collection, modernizing the tax system, preventing tax evasion, and strategies for the revenue collection needed for the country’s economic stability.
