A Tax Identification Number (TIN) has been made mandatory for registering motorcycles above 150cc in the 2026-27 budget. Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury made the announcement while presenting the proposed 2026-27 budget in parliament on Thursday (11 June).

Under the theme “A journey towards a democratic, humane and inclusive economy,” the proposed national budget for 2026-27 is set at 9,38,000 crore taka — 13.7 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), and 1,48,000 crore taka more than the current fiscal year’s budget. A plan has been taken to raise total development spending and relatively reduce operating spending in the coming year, giving development activity greater weight in the structure of government expenditure.

The proposed budget allocates 3,00,000 crore taka for the Annual Development Programme (ADP), with total development spending set at 3,16,075 crore taka, while 6,21,925 crore taka is proposed for operating and other expenditure. The government is following a policy of gradually raising the development share of the budget: development spending is proposed to rise to 33.70 percent in the coming year, up from 27.27 percent in the current revised budget, while the operating share is to fall from 72.73 percent of total spending this year to 66.30 percent next year.
