Efforts are under way to revive the memorandum of understanding signed with the United States, Iranian interior ministry spokesman Ali Zeinivand has said. International mediation to that end is continuing, he said.
Speaking at a press conference, Zeinivand said Iran wants the other side to abide by its commitments under the understanding.
The official stressed: “This is an understanding that the Supreme National Security Council approved and the supreme leader confirmed. It is treated as a formal decision of the state apparatus.”
He added that active diplomatic engagement is continuing through the president’s participation in the Shanghai and BRICS summits held in India and Kyrgyzstan, and through intensive discussions.
Referring to record inflation in Iran following decades of Western sanctions, the spokesman said rising commodity prices are causing concern among the public and that all officials are working towards a solution.
