Edible oil prices won’t rise without scrutiny, minister says

Edible oil prices will not be raised without proper scrutiny, commerce minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has said.

He said this in reply to journalists’ questions after inaugurating river bank protection work at Kanishail on the right bank of the Surma river on Wednesday morning.

“Traders are demanding an increase in edible oil prices, but the government will decide after careful consideration,” the commerce minister said.

Asked whether the overall law and order situation would hamper investment, he said: “The government is watching to make sure the country’s overall law and order situation does not affect domestic or foreign investment.”
