Truck Driver Dies After Train Hits Truck on Tracks in Jashore. The train driver was thrown from the truck and onto the railway line after the collision. He died at the scene, cut by the train. The incident occurred today, Thursday, around noon in the Mashrahat area of Abhaynagar Upazila.
The deceased truck driver has been identified as Monir Hossain, 60, a resident of Arajapa village in Kaliganj Upazila of Jhenaidah.
Witnesses and railway police said the incident occurred at Mashrahat area in Abhaynagar Upazila, alongside the Jashore-Khulna highway and the Khulna-Rajshahi railway line. Adjacent to the railway line is the coal dump of Akij Resources. There is no gatekeeper at the level crossing. There are no vehicle control arrangements during train movement. On Tuesday afternoon, a truck coming from the Jashore-Khulna highway slowly crossed the railway line and stopped at the coal dump to load coal. Around 12:30 pm, the Chapai Nawabganj-bound Mahananda Express train, departing from Khulna, hit the truck. The truck overturned, and its driver, Monotosh Hossain, fell onto the railway line and was run over by the train, resulting in his death.
Noapara station master Itasin Arafat of Noapara Railway Station said the rail crossing in the Mashrahat area is illegal. The Mahananda Express train was scheduled to depart Noapara station today at 12:23 p.m. The accident occurred around 12:30 p.m. when the train collided with a truck at the rail crossing in the Mashrahat area. After the accident, the train resumed its regular schedule.
Jotish Chandra Barman, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Jessore Railway Police, said legal action is underway in this regard.
