Despite exiting the tournament, Egypt drew special attention for its performance at this year’s World Cup. In recognition of that success, the country’s football federation is set to receive record financial incentives from FIFA. Under the current prize structure, the Egyptian Football Association’s (EFA) total earnings stand at $18.5 million.

The “Pharaohs” set multiple milestones this tournament. Beating Australia in the knockout stage, they reached the quarterfinals with a win in the World Cup round of 16 for the first time. Egypt also set a new record for playing the most matches — five — in a single World Cup edition.

The team also touched a new milestone in scoring in its own history. Finding the net eight times over the tournament, they set a new record for the most goals scored by Egypt in a single edition. Finishing runners-up in a tough group featuring Belgium, Iran and New Zealand to advance to the knockout stage, Egypt ended its World Cup campaign with two wins, two draws and one loss.

Under FIFA’s prize structure, Egypt received $2.5 million for World Cup preparation and participation costs. Qualifying for the main tournament added another $10 million. And securing a place in the round of 16 brought an additional $6 million into the federation’s coffers.

In total, the Egyptian Football Association’s earnings from this World Cup stand at $18.5 million — the country’s highest-ever financial return from a World Cup, which could play an important role in Egypt’s future football development.
