Egypt will face Argentina in the round of 16 the day after tomorrow in Atlanta, approximately 1,300 kilometers from Dallas. Before departing for the new venue, members of the Egyptian football team met with Dallas Police Deputy Chief Ismail in a goodwill visit.
The Dallas Police Department posted photos on its official Facebook page, writing: “The Dallas Police Department values the relationships built with members of our community and international guests. We believe even a single conversation can bring positive change. Today, members of the Egyptian football team met with Dallas police officials and exchanged gifts.”
Egypt captain Mohamed Salah, coach Hossam Hassan, Egypt’s Consul General in Houston Sherif Mokhtar, Egyptian Football Association president Hani Abu Rida — a prominent FIFA Council member — and team director Ibrahim Hassan were present at the meeting.
Egypt secured their round-of-16 place by beating Australia 4-2 on penalties in Dallas. However, a confrontation between team director Ibrahim Hassan and local security staff at the team hotel had gone viral on social media before that match. The goodwill meeting was arranged after Egypt’s victory.
