CUMILLA — A 38-year-old man from Cumilla’s Titas upazila was found dead in a garbage dumpster at a construction site in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a day after he went missing from work, his family said.

Rabiul Hasan Robin went missing Monday morning, May 4, while working at a Chinese construction firm in the Bukit Jalil area of Kuala Lumpur. Police recovered his body the following afternoon, Tuesday, May 5, from a garbage dumpster inside the building under construction.

Robin had gone to Malaysia in hopes of bringing prosperity to his family, but after three years of hard work, his dream now lies in a coffin. His body is currently being kept at the morgue of the Malaysian immigration department.

Robin was the son of the late Abdur Rahman of Kalaigobindapur village in Balrampur union of the upazila.

Robin’s family alleges that his death was not natural but a planned killing. His father-in-law, Md. Rashid Mia, said Robin had been put in charge of keeping records of workers’ wages just 15 days earlier. He developed a dispute with some co-workers after that, Mia said. The family believes he was killed out of revenge and his body dumped in the garbage container.

Robin’s elder brother, Khokon, said Robin went to Malaysia in September 2023 on a calling visa. The entire family is in despair after losing its only breadwinner, he said. The future of Robin’s 15-year-old son, Mihad, his 5-year-old daughter, Raisa, and his youngest son, 2-year-old Rohan, is now in darkness. Robin’s wife, Ferdousi Akter, has fainted repeatedly, unable to bear the grief of losing her husband, Khokon said.
