Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei has sharply criticized the United States, saying Washington’s governance and foreign policy have become entirely dependent on “lies.”
Criticizing US policy toward Iran and the broader Middle East, Baghaei invoked Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky’s classic novel The Brothers Karamazov.
Baghaei said Washington’s entire policy framework has become excessively reliant on deception. Quoting Dostoevsky, he said: “A person who lies to himself and believes his own lies reaches a point where he can no longer distinguish any truth within himself or around him.”
Through the literary reference, the Iranian spokesperson suggested that the United States has engaged in so much deception on the international stage that it has reached a state of delusion where it can no longer differentiate between reality and its own falsehoods.
