A 32-year-old man, Ismail, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Khulna.
The attack took place around 12:15 a.m. on Thursday night in the South Tutpara Barokhal Par area of the city. Ismail was the son of Shajahan of Barokhal Par.
Police said the assailants opened fire on Ismail while he was in the South Tutpara Barokhal Par area, hitting him in the head, after which he collapsed. The attackers then hacked him repeatedly with sharp weapons and fled. He was taken in critical condition to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Md Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khulna Sadar police station, said it was initially believed the killing stemmed from previous enmity, and that the deceased faced multiple cases, including for murder.
