A construction worker died after being electrocuted while casting the roof of an under-construction building in Alamdanga, Chuadanga, on Friday.

Mustakim, 20, a mason’s assistant and the son of Abdullah of the same village, was electrocuted around 12:15 p.m. in Hakimpur village of the upazila, according to local residents and hospital sources.

Mustakim and a group of workers had been casting the roof of a one-storey building in the village since morning. At one point, he accidentally came into contact with a main electrical line that ran very close to the building and was electrocuted, losing consciousness on the spot.

Colleagues and locals rushed him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty in the emergency department declared him dead. The doctor said he had died before reaching the hospital. His body was kept in the hospital morgue and would be handed to the family after an autopsy.

Bani Israil, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga police station, confirmed Mustakim’s death by electrocution.
