A third consultation meeting has been held in Moheshpur municipality, Jhenaidah, to help draw up the municipality’s master plan under the Institutional Urban Governance and Infrastructure Project (IUGIP).
The consultation was held Monday morning, August 24, at the Moheshpur upazila parishad auditorium, chaired by Sajjad Hossain, administrator of Moheshpur municipality and upazila nirbahi officer.
The meeting on the municipality’s development plan was attended by Sohel Rana, engineer in charge at Moheshpur municipality; Mostafizur Rahman, upazila social services officer; the upazila education officer; Md Mamun Hossain, the official responsible for the municipality’s development planning; and other local dignitaries. Discussions covered a range of issues important to the municipality’s overall development and improving the quality of civic services, with particular emphasis on plans for road and drainage systems, playgrounds and a bus terminal, along with other necessary infrastructure.
Participants discussed the current state of the municipality’s infrastructure, residents’ needs and future requirements, stressing the importance of adopting a long-term, realistic development plan. They also discussed the need for an effective drainage system to address waterlogging, improved communication infrastructure, preserving playgrounds for children and young people, and building a modern, planned bus terminal.
Speakers said that through planned urbanization, Moheshpur municipality could be developed into a more modern, clean and citizen-friendly town, and that the municipality’s master plan should be drawn up giving due weight to local residents’ opinions. The consultation was attended by relevant municipal officials, journalists, elected representatives, representatives of various professions, and local dignitaries. Organizers said the opinions and plans raised during the consultation are expected to play an important role in the municipality’s overall future development.
