Iran has strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the United Arab Emirates, with its foreign ministry warning that an Israeli government presence in the region could have “very dangerous consequences”.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the United Arab Emirates and warns of the very dangerous consequences of the presence of the occupying Israeli regime in the region,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The statement said West Asia is going through one of the most fragile and sensitive periods in its history because of Israel’s military aggression against Iran and the escalation of occupation and conflict, especially in Palestine and Lebanon. In such circumstances, the presence in the region of a person “whose hands are stained with the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent people and who faces international court proceedings” is extremely dangerous and worrying, it said.
Given the long-standing hostility between Israel and Iran and other countries in the region, and Israel’s repeated threats against Iran, all regional countries should be aware of the possible consequences of such visits, Iran said. Such a presence threatens peace and security across the region, regional security is collective and indivisible, and any step that lets destabilising forces into the region will ultimately harm all its countries and could deepen division, insecurity and instability in West Asia, it said.
Iran called on the region’s governments to be mindful of their responsibilities, not to allow their territory to be used for the “destructive presence of the Israeli regime”, and not to become a platform for destabilising activity against any regional country.
