TEHRAN — Iran is preparing to set bounties on U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the top U.S. Central Command commander, Adm. Brad Cooper, Iranian officials said. A parliamentary vote could come soon.
Ebrahim Azizi, chair of Iran’s National Security Commission, said a bill titled “Counter-measures of the Islamic Republic’s military and security forces” has been drafted. It proposes formalizing a €50 million bounty (about £43.5 million) on Trump, Netanyahu and Cooper.
Iranian officials hold Trump, Netanyahu and Cooper responsible for a February attack targeting Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “Resistance and counter-measures” are needed in response, Azizi said.
Mahmoud Nabavian, another member of the National Security Commission, said parliament would soon vote on a reward for “anyone who sends Trump and Netanyahu to hell.” He warned that any renewed military strikes on Iran would draw a “devastating” response.
Analysts said the proposed bounty law could further escalate tensions among the United States, Israel and Iran, marking an attempt to convert what had been religious decrees or political threats into a formal parliamentary act.
Trump had earlier warned that if Iran attempted an assassination, the United States would respond “extremely harshly” and could “wipe Iran off the face of the earth.” Separately, a campaign called “Blood Covenant” claims it has raised more than $27 million toward assassinating Trump.
