US President Donald Trump has welcomed the Mecca joint defense pact, describing the agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan as an important step toward strengthening regional security and boosting each country’s own defense capabilities. The report is sourced to the Saudi Gazette.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Sunday, August 16, Trump said: “I am very pleased that Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan have recently, and finally, signed the Mecca joint defense pact.”

He added that it showed how the Middle East is coming together and how the countries will ultimately be able to defend themselves more effectively. Congratulating the leadership of the three countries, Trump called the pact “a big, bold, and important first step — wow!”

What’s in the pact?

Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed the Mecca joint defense pact at Al-Safa Palace in Mecca on August 7, establishing a trilateral framework for collective defense and broader security and military cooperation among the three countries.

The pact was signed by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. At its core is a mutual-defense commitment: an armed attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three.

The pact also aims to build on longstanding bilateral military and security ties to further strengthen defense cooperation and collective deterrence among the three nations. Saudi Arabia has stressed that the pact is defensive in nature, not the formation of a military bloc or axis, nor an initiative to create any sectarian or religious alliance.
