Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from the Khonchabari area of Tilai union in Bhurungamari upazila, Kurigram, on Friday evening. Locals believe the body was carried downstream from India by floodwaters in the Dudhkumar River.

Tilai union council chairman Kamruzzaman Kamrul said local residents spotted the body on a riverbank after receding waters exposed it on the mudflat. Police arrived in the afternoon and recovered the remains. The identity of the deceased has not been established, but the body is believed to be that of an Indian national.

Bhurungamari police station officer-in-charge Azim Uddin said the body is believed to have washed in from India. It will be handed over to the Anjuman Mufidul Islam volunteer organization for burial.
