MYMENSINGH — An 11-month-old girl was killed and her grandmother seriously injured when a CNG-powered auto rickshaw collided head-on with a battery-powered auto rickshaw in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh, police said.
The accident occurred Saturday afternoon at the Narangi intersection in Uthura union of the upazila.
The child, Suraiya Akter, was the daughter of Chhamir Uddin from the Kariotala area of Haluaghat in Mymensingh. She was in the lap of her grandmother, Sani Khatun, at the time of the accident.
According to local sources, Suraiya was traveling by CNG with her mother and grandmother from Uthura to the Kariotala area of Haluaghat upazila in Mymensingh, where her maternal grandparents live. The CNG collided head-on with a battery-powered auto rickshaw coming from the opposite direction at the Narangi intersection on the Bharadweba-Ghatail road in Bhaluka upazila. The grandmother, Sani Khatun, and the child in her lap were thrown from the vehicle, and the child died at the scene. Sani Khatun was seriously injured, and locals took her to Bhaluka upazila health complex.
Bhaluka model police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Zahidul Islam said police were sent to the scene after receiving news of the accident.
