Three church leaders have been killed in India’s Manipur state in a shooting by unknown armed individuals. The incident occurred on Wednesday (May 13) in the state’s Kamjong district, injuring several others.

The deceased were local leaders of the Thadou Baptist Association (TBA). They were identified as Reverend V. Sitlhou, former general secretary of the Manipur Baptist Convention; Reverend V. Kaigolun; and Pastor Paogoulen.

According to local sources, they were returning to Kamjong after attending a TBA meeting in Lamka, Churachandpur district. On their way, they were attacked at the site of the incident, resulting in their deaths.

At least five people were injured in the attack, including several religious leaders and two drivers. They are being treated at a local hospital. The incident sparked tension in Kamjong and the nearby Kukui-Joi areas, leading to the blockage of the 2nd National Highway. This highway is a major route connecting Manipur to Nagaland and other parts of India.

Various organizations have demanded a thorough investigation and swift justice for the perpetrators. Local administration has reportedly intensified security measures in the entire region following the incident.
