GAIBANDHA — A tea seller in Saghata upazila of Gaibandha died of electric shock while trying to repair a blender at home, police said. He died on the way to the hospital after being found injured Saturday morning.
Mahabub Alam, officer-in-charge of Saghata police station, confirmed the death Saturday afternoon, April 25. The incident took place the same morning in Mathorpara Pochabasta village of Ghuridaha union in the upazila.
The victim was identified as Jyotish Chandra Barman, also known as Mona, 32, son of Surendra Barman of the village. He ran a tea stall at Mathorpara Bottola market.
According to police and local sources, Mona was trying to repair a blender at his home Saturday when a sudden electrical short circuit shocked him. Family members found him and tried to take him to the Saghata Upazila Health Complex, but he died on the way.
“Mona was the sole earning member of the family,” said Sumon Roy, the victim’s cousin. “Both his parents have been paralyzed for a long time. He was seriously injured while repairing the blender Saturday morning and died on the way to the hospital.”
“A young man died of electric shock at Mathorpara while repairing a blender at home, according to local people,” Alam said. “He was a tea seller.”
