Bangladesh Bank has raised the maximum repayment period for personal loans and consumer-durables financing from five years to eight years, it said in a circular sent to the managing directors and chief executives of all scheduled banks on Thursday.
The circular stated that Prudential Regulation provisions for consumer financing have been amended to align repayment ceilings with expanded personal loan limits. Under the revised regulations, the maximum tenure for such loans shall not exceed eight years.
In the same circular, the central bank also relaxed conditions on auto loans to support the domestic vehicle industry. Borrowers may take auto loans of up to Tk 60 lakh for regular vehicles. For electric, hybrid and locally manufactured vehicles, the ceiling has been raised to Tk 80 lakh, with a loan-to-value ratio of up to 80 per cent — compared with the 60 per cent limit that continues to apply to standard auto loans.
