Pakistan’s security forces said they intercepted and destroyed four drones sent from Afghanistan across the Balochistan border, describing the incident as a failed provocation against Pakistan’s sovereignty.

In a statement issued Tuesday (June 30), the military’s media wing ISPR said the Afghan Taliban government sent four rudimentary drones across the Balochistan border with the support and patronage of terrorist groups operating in Afghan Taliban-controlled territory.

Pakistan’s air defense systems quickly detected the drones, and security forces destroyed all four using advanced counter-drone technology, neutralizing the potential attack, ISPR said.

The statement criticized the Afghan Taliban government, saying it was trying to mislead its own people through such actions. ISPR called on the Afghan Taliban to stop supporting terrorists and refrain from such irresponsible steps, urging adherence to the principles of peaceful coexistence.

Pakistan’s military warned that any provocation against the country’s sovereignty would be met with an effective and appropriate response under Operation Ghazab Lil Haq. Any action threatening national security would be countered swiftly, firmly, and decisively, it said.

Russia expressed concern over the border situation. In a statement Tuesday, Russia’s foreign ministry called on Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve their longstanding disputes through diplomatic and political means. Moscow described recent Pakistani airstrikes along the border as “regrettable.” According to the United Nations, at least 28 people were killed in the strikes, though both Pakistan’s security forces and the Afghan Taliban have claimed higher casualty figures.

Moscow said Islamabad and Kabul should halt armed conflict and choose the path of dialogue to settle all disputes.
