LALMONIRHAT — An abandoned mortar shell was recovered from the Burimari border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat, police said.
The shell was recovered Thursday afternoon from a cropland near border pillar 837/1S in the Bamandal area of Burimari union.
According to local sources, Saju, son of the late Karim of Bamandal village in the upazila, went to work on cropland next to his house and saw an old mortar shell lying abandoned beneath the soil. After the news spread, members of the Burimari Border Outpost of Teesta Battalion (61 BGB) quickly reached the scene and alerted Patgram police. Patgram police recovered the shell and took it to the station.
Patgram police officer-in-charge Nazmul Haque confirmed the incident. “We received the information and recovered the mortar shell from the scene,” he said. “It is now in police custody. It will be destroyed under instructions from senior authorities after following the necessary legal procedures.”
