Abdur Rahman Khan, the recently departed chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), is set to be appointed as Bangladesh’s next executive director at the World Bank. Sharifa Khan, former senior secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), currently holds the post of executive director for Bangladesh at the World Bank.
Once the government notification is issued, he will represent Bangladesh on the World Bank’s board of directors. Sources said the Prime Minister’s Office has already approved the file related to Abdur Rahman Khan’s appointment.
The World Bank’s executive director represents member countries on the institution’s board of directors, taking part in key decisions related to loans, grants, development projects, policy decisions and various financial activities. An alternate executive director, meanwhile, performs the executive director’s duties in their absence and assists in the board’s activities.
