Argentina’s key midfielder Leandro Paredes has picked up an injury during pre-World Cup preparations, with the team management worried about his hamstring problem.
News of the injury before the squad set off for the United States has raised concern in the Argentina camp. Lionel Scaloni’s side will play two warm-up matches — against Honduras on June 6 and Iceland on June 9 — but Paredes is unlikely to feature in either.
After a match, the Boca Juniors captain said: “I had a hamstring problem all week, but I did not want to miss this match in any way. There was no question of leaving the field.”
He added: “The coach told me to tell the truth and to take care of myself, because I have some important matches ahead. But I was in no position to sit out this one.”
Argentina and Boca Juniors have not yet given details on how serious the injury is or when Paredes might return.
