Spain’s young star Lamine Yamal, awaiting his World Cup debut, has made an unusual promise to fans: if Spain win the World Cup, he will not trim his beard for three weeks. He has also announced he will give away 100 Beats headphones as part of the celebration. In a video on his YouTube channel, the 18-year-old footballer said he would fulfil the promise if he wins the World Cup title. It will be the first World Cup for the Barcelona winger.

Talking about his experience of playing in big tournaments, he recalled winning Euro 2024. According to Yamal, it is natural to feel pressure and nerves in a tournament’s first match, but he has learned to be patient and stay focused on his own game even when the start does not go as expected, because a big tournament is a long battle. Yamal also shared his feelings about the Ballon d’Or, admitting that he once thought the award might come to him too, but later realised he was not yet mature enough to fully grasp its significance — so he views Ousmane Dembele’s win positively.

Mentioning his relationship with Dembele, Yamal said the French star had regularly advised him and given him emotional support during difficult times, and that he considers Dembele’s role important in his personal and professional growth. Spain are due to face Peru on Monday in their last warm-up match before the World Cup, after which they will play Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde in Group H of the main tournament.
