The meeting took place at the opposition leader’s office at 11:30am. It was the ambassador’s first visit since Dr. Shafiqur Rahman assumed the role of opposition leader. The meeting was described as cordial and warm, party sources said.

The two sides discussed Bangladesh’s overall political and economic situation following the national election, the passage of the national budget, and ways to deepen bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Spain in trade, investment, development cooperation, and other areas of mutual interest, party sources said. They also exchanged views on the current political situation, expected reforms, the July National Charter, and strengthening democratic institutions.

Budget implementation and the Rohingya issue, including potential solutions and ongoing challenges, were also discussed at length.

The opposition leader praised Spain’s longstanding friendship and cooperation with Bangladesh and expressed hope that Spain’s support for Bangladesh’s development and democratic progress would continue. He also commended Spain for its continued support for an independent Palestinian state.
