A passenger named Abdul Malek, 55, has been killed after a bus lost control and fell into a pond beside the road in Barisal. Several other people were injured in the incident.
The incident happened at around 8:30am on Saturday (September 19) in the Gariarpar area of the Barisal-Banaripara road.
Malek was a resident of the area next to Baisharee High School in Banaripara upazila.
Barisal Airport police station’s officer-in-charge, Rafiqul Islam, said the bus was travelling from Swarupkathi in Pirojpur towards Nathullabad central bus terminal in Barisal. On the way, it lost control in the Gariarpar area and fell into a pond beside the road. Malek died at the scene. The injured were rescued and taken to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
The officer-in-charge added that police and fire service personnel reached the scene on receiving news of the accident and began work to recover the bus.
