New president moves into Bangabhaban with family

Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has moved into the official Bangabhaban residence together with his wife, Rahat Ara Begum, and other family members. The president arrived at Bangabhaban around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, August 23. A smartly turned-out mounted unit of the Bangladesh Police welcomed him on arrival. The president’s car then proceeded to Bangabhaban’s Credential Ground, escorted by the mounted unit.

There, a smart contingent of the President’s Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the president a guard of honor. Senior Bangabhaban officials then welcomed the president and his family members with flowers.

Those extending greetings included the president’s military secretary, Maj. Gen. A S M Bahauddin; the secretary of the public administration wing, A J M Salahuddin Nagari; press secretary Sarwar Alam; and assistant military secretary Brig. Gen. Mohammad Raisul Islam.

After the formalities, the president went to his office, where he held courtesy meetings and exchanged greetings with senior officials. He then began official work at his desk. He also signed the Bangabhaban visitors’ book.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was earlier sworn in as the country’s 23rd president at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on Friday night.

Before taking office as president, Mirza Fakhrul lived at the official residence on Minto Road as local government, rural development and cooperatives minister.
