The United States has again carried out what it called “defensive strikes” on Iranian military targets, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said. The strikes hit radar and drone installations in Iran’s Goruk city and on Qeshm Island.

In a post on the social media platform X, CENTCOM said the United States launched the operation in response to the downing of an MQ-1 drone in international waters, according to Al Jazeera.

The command also said its forces destroyed an Iranian air-defence system, a ground control station and two one-way attack drones that were posing a “clear threat” to vessels operating in regional waters.

According to CENTCOM, the strikes were carried out in response to Iran’s “aggressive actions.” There was no immediate official response from the Iranian government.

Analysts say the incident has further escalated the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East.
