Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has spoken out on the FIFA World Cup, saying the United States’ conduct at the tournament reflects its bullying foreign policy.

In a post on social media platform X on Wednesday (July 8), Pezeshkian said the United States’ conduct as World Cup host amounts to a violation of norms. He said the country is also pressuring, obstructing and deceiving its rivals, which is entirely consistent with Washington’s broader foreign policy — this is how they behave everywhere, he said.

Pezeshkian added that the US government’s conduct reflects its so-called mega playbook, but Iran rejects such games and stands firmly for its rights. Pezeshkian made the remarks amid intensifying tension between Tehran and Washington, following a US strike on more than 80 targets inside Iran and the reimposition of oil sanctions this week.
