The frenzy around the World Cup final is at its peak. A severe ticket shortage has developed among fans desperate to watch the Argentina-Spain showdown live. On the resale market, one ticket has reached about $10,000 — roughly 12.5 lakh taka in Bangladeshi currency. Demand had not eased even a few hours before the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

According to TYC Sports, the lowest resale prices on platforms such as StubHub and Ticketmaster were starting from about $10,000 and climbing further as demand rose. General tickets on FIFA’s official website were already nearly sold out, leaving only hospitality or VIP-category tickets, whose price had reached about $60,000 — nearly 74 lakh taka.

The ticket crunch was not confined to the stadium precincts; it was also seen at New York’s Times Square, where many fans stood holding placards reading “Ticket wanted,” ready to spend any amount to watch the match live, while others waited in hope of a cheaper ticket at the last minute. Supporters of both Argentina and Spain gathered at Times Square for the final, though Albiceleste fans were clearly the larger number. In support of Lionel Messi’s side, the famous New York square turned momentarily into Buenos Aires, and advertising billboards jokingly showed it as “Argentines’ Square.” Amid the Argentines’ commanding presence, Spain’s supporters celebrated in their own way too, and even rain could not stop the two sets of fans.
