The 23rd edition of the football World Cup is under way, with 100 matches of the tournament already played and only four left. Reaching the semifinals on outstanding performances are four former champions — Argentina, France, England and Spain. Ticket prices have been high since the start of the World Cup, and demand for semifinal tickets is sky-high, with tickets for one semifinal costing more than double those for the other.
France and Spain take the field in the first semifinal in Dallas at 1 a.m. on Tuesday. According to the ticket-tracking service TicketData.com, at 10 p.m. Bangladesh time on Monday (noon US Eastern Time) the ticket price for this match was $1,325. Argentina face England in Atlanta on Wednesday; the ticket price for this match was initially $2,841, but because of dynamic pricing it rose 34 percent over the past three days, reaching a peak of $2,966 on Saturday before easing to $2,537 the following morning.
The second semifinal’s tickets cost almost double those for the third-place match. The third-place match, to be held in Miami next Saturday, has a ticket price of $1,543. The final, to be held in New York next Sunday, currently has a ticket price of $6,760, which has fallen about 6 percent in the past 72 hours. Last October, advance tickets for the final had cost a maximum of $13,650.
