With the Eid mood barely over, gold prices have fallen again in the country’s market. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has announced a cut of up to 5,482 taka a bhori. BAJUS confirmed in a notice that the new prices took effect from 10am on Saturday. The decision was taken because the price of “tejabi” (pure) gold in the local market has fallen.
Under the new price list, the best-quality 22-carat gold will now cost 229,373 taka a bhori. Other grades have also fallen significantly: 21-carat will sell at 218,933 taka a bhori and 18-carat at 187,674 taka a bhori, while traditional-method gold has been set at 152,857 taka a bhori.
BAJUS had earlier cut gold prices in the first round after Eid, on 2 June, when 22-carat gold was set at 234,855 taka a bhori. This is the 71st time gold prices have changed this year — raised 37 times and cut 34 times.
