The Muslim World League (MWL) has strongly condemned Israel’s plan to expand the “E1” settlement in the occupied West Bank, warning that the plan threatens the path toward establishing an independent Palestinian state.
Israel recently invited tenders to build 1,234 housing units in the E1 area, part of a larger plan to build settlements there. The initiative is intended to create a continuous corridor of Israeli settlements between occupied East Jerusalem and Ma’ale Adumim.
The Muslim World League described the E1 project as a “dangerous plan” and condemned what it called Israel’s “entire illegal settlement policy” in occupied Palestinian territory.
In a statement, the organization said such actions violate international law and United Nations resolutions, and are obstructing all peace efforts.
Call to the international community
The Muslim World League called on the international community to immediately halt Israel’s settlement-expansion policy.
The organization said other measures aimed at changing the “geographic and demographic character” of occupied Palestinian territory, including settlement expansion, must also be stopped.
The Muslim World League reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people’s right to establish an “independent and sovereign Palestinian state.”
The organization said a two-state solution remains the “only path” to a just and lasting regional peace.
