One sentenced to death in Noakhali double-murder case

A court sentenced lead accused Sabuj to death in a double-murder case over the shooting deaths of two people during a dispute about building a boundary wall in Begumganj, Noakhali. The court acquitted the other two defendants, Parul and Farhad.

Additional Sessions Judge Touhidul Islam announced the verdict at 4pm on Thursday. The case arose from a dispute on April 2, 2013, over building a pond boundary wall at Monu Miji’s home in Jagadishpur village. A shooting led by Sabuj killed Setara Begum and Khalil and injured five others. Abdur Sahid filed the murder case, GR No. 499/13. The prosecution welcomed the death sentence; defence lawyer Shamsuddin Ahmed said an appeal would be filed.
