Police in the Nandurbar district of India’s Maharashtra have arrested a 22-year-old man on charges of sexually abusing minors and young people. The accused had, since 2022, been blackmailing and exploiting victims by threatening to post videos on social media, according to local media. The allegations are untested.

Local police superintendent Ashwini Sanap said about 600 explicit videos had been recovered from the accused’s mobile phone. Police have begun identifying victims from the videos found on the device and recording their statements. The operation was carried out after secret information that a man was luring minors with money and committing crimes against them, police said.

The accused is Chetan Prakash Koli, 22, a resident of Raisingpura. A large number of explicit videos and images were found on searching his mobile phone. A forensic team seized the phone, completed the necessary examination and sent it for further testing. Police said an initial investigation had found the accused had been committing such crimes since 2022, and that victims would be contacted and their statements recorded on the basis of the recovered videos and images.
