Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury is presenting the largest national budget in the country’s history, for fiscal 2026-27. Presentation began at 3pm on Thursday (11 June) in the second session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad (Bir Bikram). It is the first budget of the BNP-led government since its victory in the 12 February election.
There is good news for the country’s garment entrepreneurs too. The source-tax rate on cash incentives received from export earnings may be cut from 10 percent to 5 percent, increasing the flow of money into the export sector — though the government will lose about 500 crore taka in revenue. Export incentives are currently given in about 43 sectors including ready-made garments, at rates ranging from 0.30 percent to 10 percent. The source tax on export earnings, however, has been kept at 1 percent as before.
