A mobile court has seized 13 sacks of fertiliser being smuggled in Bochaganj, Dinajpur. The fertiliser seller and the truck driver were fined over the incident.
The mobile court carried out the raid at about 3pm on Sunday (September 20) in Poriyalpur Chowdhurypara village of Mushidhat union in the upazila.
Local people learned that fertiliser was being taken away by truck hidden inside rice straw and informed the police. Bochaganj police reached the spot and told the upazila assistant commissioner (land), Sajid Tanvi Shobhon. He then went to the scene and conducted the mobile court.
In the raid, Md Emran, proprietor of Messrs Islam Traders, was fined 1,500 taka for selling fertiliser illegally, and the truck driver Abdul Jalil was fined 200 taka for smuggling fertiliser. A total of 13 sacks and 26 kilograms of fertiliser were also seized.
The mobile court magistrate and assistant commissioner (land), Sajid Tanvi Shobhon, said the seized fertiliser would be sold to farmers at a fair price on Monday morning through the upazila agriculture office.
