Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to “push in” people in the Mashalgaon BOP border area (in Thakurgaon district’s Haripur upazila), under the Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB). The BSF tried to push in 11 people — three men, four women and four children — early on Saturday (6 June). They are currently positioned inside India, and the BGB is on alert.

To prevent possible push-ins on the Dinajpur-Thakurgaon border, the Dinajpur Battalion (42 BGB) is keeping strict watch and working with local people. Commander Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin Hasan said: “The BGB is always uncompromising in preventing illegal push-ins. I have personally taken part in public-awareness meetings to make border people aware. Company and BOP commanders are also regularly holding exchanges and awareness activities with local people. Our members are always alert and ready to face any situation.”

He appealed to people living in the border area: “The BGB must be informed as soon as any information is received about push-ins, illegal entry or any suspicious activity. The combined effort of the people and the BGB is the greatest strength in border protection.” The BGB said the force is always vigilant in ensuring border protection and preventing smuggling, drug and arms trafficking, illegal entry and push-ins, and that it would continue taking all necessary steps to protect the country’s sovereignty.
