An angry crowd has surrounded the house of the member of parliament for Jashore-4 and district Jamaat Amir, Golam Rasul. The incident arose from a misunderstanding over a minor matter involving the MP’s daughter. It took place at the MP’s house in the Nilganj Supari Bagan area of Jashore town at about 10am on Tuesday. A section of local people was still protesting as this report was written.
Those who attacked the house allege that on Monday the MP’s daughter beat a child from Al Madrasatul Sharaiyyah, which stands opposite the MP’s house. They claim she confronted the child and the child’s guardian again on Tuesday morning. Some people in the area then used this as a pretext to attack the MP’s house in a planned way. Another section of the neighbourhood says, however, that the incident arose purely from a misunderstanding.
The attackers broke the gate of the MP’s house and tried to get inside. They threw bricks and stones, breaking window glass. On receiving the news, police went to the scene and were trying to bring the situation under control.
