Six more people have died of dengue in the country in the past 24 hours, and 1,942 people have been admitted to hospital with the disease. In the first 29 days of this month, 142 people have died and a total of 41,826 have been infected.
The figures were given in a press release on dengue from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Tuesday.
In the 24 hours from 8am on Monday to 8am on Tuesday, 213 dengue patients were admitted in Barishal division, 301 in Chattogram, 378 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 178 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 229 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 264 in Khulna, 120 in Mymensingh, 197 in Rajshahi, 56 in Rangpur and 6 in Sylhet. Over the same period, 1,751 people recovered and were discharged.
The total number of dengue cases since January this year has risen to 77,672, and 239 people have died this year, the directorate said. Of the deaths, two were in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July and 43 in August. Of all those infected so far, 62.3 percent are men and 37.7 percent women.
